Prepare to always be learning. Being a good engineer means being a lifelong student.

Rajat Mutha

Technical Lead

1. How long have you been working at Velotio?

I have been working at Velotio for slightly over 2 years now.  I joined during the pandemic, so sometimes it feels like it has only been 2 months, and sometimes it feels like it has been over 20 years!

2. How has your career grown since starting at the company?

It has been quite a ride! I got to work on many projects with some great teams. I started as a Senior Software Engineer, and was eventually promoted to a Tech Lead. I love the fact that growth is entirely based on merit at Velotio. You are given ample opportunities to prove yourself and grow beyond your current role.

3. What is your favorite thing about working at Velotio?

Definitely the people you get to work with on a day-to-day basis. Everyone in the organization is technically-oriented and people are always available to geek out with!

People are just really amazing at their respective jobs and you get to learn a lot from everyone.

4. What career advice would you give to aspiring software engineers?

Prepare to always be learning. Being a good engineer means being a lifelong student.

Also, try not to specialize at the beginning of your career. Keep your mind open, be curious, and try your best to do everything that comes along your way.

5. What are your three most overused words/phrases?

“Seriously??”

“What the..”

 And the evergreen “Arrey!”

It seems that I get surprised very easily…(emoji here)

6. What would be the title of your autobiography?

"From Pro Gamer to Programmer"

I started playing PC video games when I was very young, and the only reason I ended up in this field is because I wanted to understand how games are made (and also no one could figure out how to pull me away from the computer). (emoji)

7. What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

Gaming! As I said earlier, it has been a lifelong hobby, and I continue to enjoy playing video games.

Reading books is a close second.  Nothing better than cozying up on a rainy day with a nice book and a cup of coffee!

8. What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

I am a very picky eater. You would be surprised at the number of things I don't eat. I don’t even eat rice, which is basically heresy if you live in India.

9. Where’s your favorite place in the world?

Probably my mind! I just get lost in thought and start daydreaming quite often.

In the real world, I like to spend time in nature. I've never been, but I think I would like New Zealand quite a bit.

10. If you could meet anyone in the world, who would it be?

Jackie Chan! I grew up watching his movies, and I find his work ethic very inspiring. Plus, I think he'll be a really cool guy to hang out with.

11. If you could have any superpower what would it be?

Oh, teleportation for sure! I love visiting new places, but hate the process of getting there! Being able to fly would also be super cool, but teleportation is just more practical.
